Patrol Division

The Sherman Police Department Patrol Division serves as the primary response unit for calls for service throughout the City of Sherman. Patrol officers are often the first to arrive at emergencies, crimes in progress, traffic crashes, disturbances, and other public safety incidents.

The Patrol Division is commanded by the Patrol Bureau Assistant Chief and supported by a supervisory team consisting of two Lieutenants and two Sergeants assigned to each of the department’s four patrol shifts.

Patrol Duties and Responsibilities

Sherman Police patrol officers are responsible for a wide range of law enforcement and public safety duties. In addition to responding to emergency calls, officers conduct criminal investigations, investigate traffic crashes, assist stranded motorists, enforce traffic laws, patrol assigned areas, and work proactively to prevent crime throughout the community.

Many patrol officers also serve in specialized roles while continuing their regular patrol duties. These assignments may include:

• Special Response Team

• K9 Handler

• Critical Accident Investigation Team

• Field Training Officer

Patrol Beats

For patrol operations, the City of Sherman is geographically divided into four patrol districts, also known as beats. Each beat is assigned to at least one patrol officer who is responsible for responding to calls for service, conducting proactive patrol, and maintaining visibility in that area.

Through rapid response, proactive enforcement, and community-focused policing, the Patrol Division plays a key role in keeping Sherman safe.
