Lock Box Program

What is the lock box program?

Do you live alone and often worry if help could get to you during an emergency?  First responders often respond to emergency calls that require immediate entry into a home, but the only option is to break a door or window.  This can cause delays, damage to your home, and/or injury.

Sherman Police Department’s Lock Box Program is designed to give first responders immediate access to a participant’s home in an emergency situation. This is accomplished through the use of a key and lock box that is installed on the participants home. The Lock Box Program will eliminate any delay and property damage that occurs when force is needed to gain entry into a home during an emergency.

Except for the cost of a spare key, this program is offered at no charge to the participant.

How does the program work?

  1. The eligible participant will complete and submit the application (link below) to the Sherman Police Department.

  2. Once approved, a police representative will meet with the participant at their home to review the program.

  3. The participant will supply a spare house key to the police representative.

  4. The police representative will install a lock box on the residence in a discreet location which will allow quick access for first responders. The spare key will be placed in the lock box and a unique combination will be set for the lock.

  5. The participant and lock information will be securely stored in Sherman Police Department’s emergency communications system, so first responders can be notified of the lock’s location and combination during an emergency situation.

  6. A participant can withdraw from the program at anytime. The key will be returned to the participant when the lock box is uninstalled.
